The Day of 1,000 Volunteers event is a demonstration of how our community can come together around a shared vision of success for one glorious day of volunteer service to benefit our community.

WHAT/WHEN:

On April 29, 2006, on one day between 8:00 am and 1:00 pm, Community Without Walls will mobilize one thousand volunteers to perform community service projects at 3 sites across the greater Pasadena area. People from all walks of life including students, businesses and their employees, non-profits, community groups, churches and educational institutions will all contribute time and resources to benefit public schools, area non-profits and parks and public spaces.

Volunteers will paint dilapidated schools, plant colorful gardens, refurbish non-profit facilities, and create beautiful murals in public spaces to demonstrate the power of people helping people, and to highlight the many benefits of volunteer service to the individuals who choose to engage in it.

WHY:

Volunteering, at its best, brings people together across gender, socio-economic, cultural and other societal barriers and allows them to demonstrate the power of people working with people toward a shared vision of success. Projects will highlight the many benefits of volunteer service for those who choose to participate.

WHO:

Community Without Walls¹ is a community action organization whose three-part mission is to: Link people and organizations to service opportunities, match community assets to needs, and foster cross-sector partnerships that address critical community needs. Email or call us regarding projects you can volunteer for all year round.

WHERE:

Public schools, non-profit facilities and public spaces in the greater Pasadena area are currently being reviewed as project sites and the list will be made public shortly.

HOW:

Individuals and groups of volunteers are being solicited to participate in the event. Area schools and non-profits are also being notified of the opportunity to benefit from the service of citizens during the event.
