Annual Giving at Community Day School

At Community Day School, tuition only covers about 80% of the actual cost of educating each student. Annual Giving and fundraising initiatives provide the essential support that bridges this gap, making it possible for us to sustain and advance our mission.

Gifts to the Annual Fund directly impact our classrooms, faculty, and students by providing:

  • Classroom materials and supplies

  • Teacher salaries and professional development

  • Enrichment programs and diverse student experiences

  • Maintenance of our beautiful campus

Your generosity ensures that we can attract and retain exceptional teachers, offer high-quality programs, and keep tuition as affordable as possible.

Why Not Just Raise Tuition?

Enhancing our program solely on tuition increases would make a CDS education out of reach for many families. Annual Fund gifts are tax-deductible—unlike tuition—and provide the flexibility needed to invest in outstanding teachers, robust programming, and strong facilities. In this way, every student benefits from the generosity of our larger community.

Is My Gift Tax Deductible?

Yes. Community Day School (Hershorin Schiff Day Schools of Tomorrow, Inc.) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All gifts are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.

Are Annual Funds Common?

Yes. Annual Funds are a cornerstone of independent school education. In fact, 90% of independent schools operate with a tuition gap of 10–25% and depend on annual giving to cover the difference between tuition income and actual operating expenses.

Why Ask Every Member of Our Community to Give?

When parents, grandparents, alumni parents, faculty, and our Board all participate, it demonstrates to outside funders that those who know us best are fully invested in our success. This collective support helps us secure grants, foundation gifts, and other outside funding. Last year, our Board achieved 100% participation, and we strive for the same with our parents each year.

How Much Should I Give?

Every gift—large or small—makes a difference. Participation is what matters most. We simply ask that you give as generously as you are able. Your investment in Community Day School will pay lifetime dividends for your child, our community, and future generations.
