Learning Expeditions

At Community Day School, our Learning Expeditions transform the world around us into a classroom. By taking full advantage of Sarasota’s cultural, environmental, and community resources, students of all ages engage in rich, hands-on learning experiences that make academics come alive.
From exploring marine ecosystems with scientists on Sarasota Bay, to studying art and history at local museums, to engaging in service projects that support community partners, Learning Expeditions provide authentic opportunities for students to connect what they learn in class with the real world. These experiences build not only knowledge but also curiosity, empathy, and a deeper sense of responsibility for the world they live in.
In this project-based approach, students pursue rigorous academic goals while following their own interests, collaborating with peers, and discovering the joy of learning together. The result is an educational journey that is challenging, meaningful, and fun—preparing students to think critically, solve problems creatively, and see themselves as active participants in their community and beyond.
